Medicine

During this trip we expected to shadow a doctor much more than we actually did. We got to see a few things, like how he deals with the patients, etc. Part of the group even got to see prostate surgery take place. A lot of the experience though, I would have to say, came from working with each other, learning how to take care of each other, and how the natives would also take care of certain problems.

For instance, sugar clots a cut that won't stop bleeding... when they told us to put that on a cut that wouldn't stop, most of them thought that that was nuts, but we had to learn to trust them, and it worked! That was interesting.

Also, in prayer for the next trip, is that we could hopefully put on clinics in the area, or at least bring down more medical supplies for the doctor to utilize for the community. The harsh reality there is, though, that one medical visit is about a tenth of their yearly salary, and though health is of course a priority, sometimes it has to be put on hold, because providing for your family comes first. So we have high hopes and expectations for this next year to come!

So please, keep that in prayer, and lets see what God has in mind.
