The Volcanoe!

So, the first Sunday that we were there, the church pitched in, to take us up to the local Volcanoe, and then to serve lunch there.

So we got up early, packed into a bus, and headed out. They told us that we would only be able to drive up to a certain point, and that the rest of the way we were to hike. So we got to the part where it got steep, and started praying that the bus would even make it to the top... and then half way to the top, the bus started rolling backwards, which we could all tell was not a good thing. So they got some bricks behind the wheel, and we jumped out before it started rolling backwards again. And this was the beginning of our journey up.

I think the most awesome part of this experience, was how the team came together to help each other up this mountain, through patience and encouragement. You go girls!

So when we got to the top, it was a beautiful view. The water was bluer then blue, and the air was fresh. The team just relaxed, or played with teams, while the adults prepared the food, that they had hiked up with... that was amazing to see. Seriously.

So they served us three whole chickens, with the neck, esophagus, and most of the insides, soup, and tortillas. It was quite a lot of food. :-)

Afterwards we went into the water a bit, and then hiked down.

When we got to the paved road, we all got together, and started walking down together (as some people hiked down faster then others i.e. the teenage boys. lol). A little after we started though, we heard someone say something about the bus, and then the guys all took off running down the hill. So, needless to say, we got a bit scared, and walked faster. When we got to the site, we saw that the bus had tipped over on its way up! Thank God, no one was hurt, and if it rolled over one more time, it would have rolled down the mountain. It was amazing that no one was hurt.
